What is the REME Museum about?

The REME Museum tells the story of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) from 1942 to the present day, through rare artefacts and the voices of REME people.

Who are the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers?

The Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) have been ‘keeping the punch in the Army’s fist’ since 1942. Whether it’s keeping an Apache attack helicopter battle ready or recovering a Challenger tank under fire, REME personnel make sure that cutting edge kit is ready for action.

How can I learn more about REME?

We regularly post articles on our Blog involving REME history, as well as delving further into the stories of our collection items.

Are you the Royal Engineers Museum?

No! Though we are often mistaken for the Corps of Royal Engineers, the REME is an entirely separate Corps in the British Army. We do not collect items related to the Royal Engineers unless they are associated to REME personnel who are/were attached to the Royal Engineers. The Royal Engineers Museum is based in Gillingham, Kent.
