These are the Kukris issued to the Imperial Gurkha troops. They are reputed to have been developed from the Macedonian short sword, used in the time of Alexander the Great.

A pair of modern American machettes made in USA in 1945. The origin of the machette was the Caribbean, where it was used for cane cutting.
