A Wokingham Society sponsored local history project showing Arborfield Garrison's Remount Depot foundation in 1904, through the First World War to the 1930s, to the Garrison during the Second World War. See the Garrison's effect on the citizens and life of Wokingham and its post-war development. Share the Corps' pride as it is granted the status of Honorary Townspeople of Wokingham. |
The display includes artefacts given by the Town of Wokingham and promotes the good relationship between the Corps of REME and the townspeople. Ken Goatley - the Wokingham Times and local historian, Freeman of Wokingham and member of the Wokingham Society - has been pivotal in this project. For the first time, the REME Museum of Technology uses oral history. A local memories "soundbox" is used to allow visitors to listen to interviews with Wokingham residents who have connections with the Garrison over sixty years. |
