In response to our visitors' requests we now offer a variety of mini tours of the Museum, handling collections and hands-on activities which you can select to create a programme for your visit. These visits must be booked in advance.
Our Education Officer's Mini Tours include highlights of the Main Museum, a whistlestop tour of the vehicles in our Vehicle Hall and a 'behind-the-scenes' tour of the Museum's Archives and Reserve Collection.
The Museum has two handling collections. The Education Officer will be on hand to talk about the objects in both collections.
| Army Uniforms This collection includes a 1950s uniform and a 1995 uniform and enables participants to see and feel the differences and change of designs between the two uniforms. You can also try them on! | Aspects of the Corps This collection
is an assortment of objects related to the Corps, for example a Mickey Mouse bubble bath bottle used
to train metalsmiths in the art of mould making. Visitors can learn a little about the REME Corps
and can even have a go at lifting a piece of tank track! |
We have several hands-on activities which take place in the Museum galleries. Each activity is a building challenge of about 30 minutes, depending on the size of your group. The solutions are tested to find the winner. We provide everything needed to complete the challenges. More details about these activities are provided on the following Challenge Sheets.
| Drop Zone | Build a Bridge | Radio Masts |
An additional charge to normal admission will be made for these activities. Please contact the Education Officer for more details.
If your group is interested in visiting the Museum and taking part in these activities, please call the Education Officer on 0118 976 3254 or email education@rememuseum.org.uk to discuss your requirements, to organise a free pre-visit and to make a booking.
