Activities

Kit Bag
A 1950s and 1995 uniform are mixed up together and stuffed into a soldier's Kit Bag. Each child pulls a piece of uniform out of the Kit Bag. They identify the separate uniforms by their colour and camouflage patterns. Children can try on individual pieces of the two uniforms or dress up their adult helpers!
Kit Bag Activity
X-Ray Soldier Activity X-Ray Soldier
An optical illusion toy involving colouring, cutting and sticking. Children colour in drawings of a soldier and his skeleton. Adult helpers cut these out and then the children stick them back to back with a straw in the middle. They then spin the straw between their hands, the toy rotates and the skeleton is seen inside the soldier - just like an X-ray.
Make a Medal
Children look at the medals on display in the Medal Room and pick out their favourite. They then make their own medal using card, foil and coloured paper. Children can wear their medals when they have finished making them.
Make a Medal Activity
Bug Hunt Activity Bug Hunt
There's a bug infestation! Working in small groups the children must find as many bugs as possible hidden on the vehicles.
Spinners
Children colour in and make paper helicopters under a real helicopter! Adults fold the spinners ready for use. Children drop their spinners from the helicopter platform and watch them spin like real helicopters.
Spinners Activity
Feely Touchy Boxes Activity Feely Touchy Boxes
Can children guess what's inside each box, just by touching the object? They then lift the lid to see if they are correct.
Colouring Sheets and Jigsaws
Several colouring sheets and chunky jigsaws are available for the children to play with. If your group runs out of time these two activities can be dropped.
Jigsaws Activity
Colouring Sheets Activity Colouring Sheets and Dot-to-Dots will be available for children who finish each activity before the rest of your group.
