To learn about light and shadows by creating a Shadow Puppet play in the Museum's Shadow Theatre.

Make a Caterpillar Shadow Puppet using card, paper fasteners and straws.
Move into the Shadow Theatre and animate puppets.
Helpers should encourage the pupils to answer the following questions written on the screen inside the Theatre:
- What is the light source?
- Ask your helper to turn the light source off. What happens to your puppet and why?
- How is the shadow made?
- Move your puppet nearer the light source. What do you notice?
- Move your puppet further away from the light source. What do you notice?
Use other shadow puppets, the scenery already prepared and the 'Prompt Cards' to encourage pupils to perform different scenes and experiment with the puppets.
