The long wheelbase Land Rover is widely used by the Army in numerous roles. This is the basic cargo version used in some workshops and REME training units. Some have been adapted to carry mobile welding plant, others test equipment, while some have even been modified as light recovery vehicles. The first Land Rovers appeared in 1948 and trial vehicles were with the Army by early 1949. Twenty were allocated WD numbers before the numbering system changed in 1949. Later versions remain in service.
This vehicle was built as a training project by apprentices at 44 District Workshop from two scrapped donor vehicles.
