Tractor 10 ton GS AEC for Semi-Trailer
(E 94.1145)

This vehicle is not currently on display at the Museum

This tractor unit, based on the AEC Militant chassis, is similar to the gun tractors and 10 ton trucks but, in place of a body it has a fifth wheel coupling for a semi-trailer. The tractor was used with various semi-trailers where it was necessary for them to be taken off firm road surfaces, where the added traction of six wheel drive could improve their mobility. Some specialist units, operating in field conditions, needed to take advantage of woodlands for concealment and had to move along rough tracks and onto soft ground to reach such areas. The AEC Militant range of vehicles came into use in the 1950s.

The Museum's tractor comes with a semi-trailer described below and was once operated by a Royal Engineers Map printing unit. This vehicle remained in use with a TA unit until the early 1990s.
