This vehicle is not currently on display at the Museum
This trailer was envisaged as a replacement for the 7½ ton trailer. By the time it came into service, few tracked vehicles small enough or light enough remained in use to be carried on it. It was widely used for carrying damaged trucks or wheeled armoured vehicles which could not be towed.
The design was very straight forward and incorporated a frame with platform body, turntable steering and detachable ramps. Each axle carried two double wheels.
The trailer is usually referred to as a Rubery Owen, but other manufacturers were also involved in their construction. The trailers came into use in the late 1950s and by the 1980s had mostly been superseded by a newer tilt bed trailer.
The 10 ton trailer was generally towed by a Scammell or Leyland recovery vehicle.
