The Museum is located just outside the REME training establishment at MoD Lyneham. It is easily accessible and has its own large car park.
See large armoured recovery vehicles, weapons, uniforms and medals. Listen to the stories of Soldiers and Officers who have served. Experience hands-on interactives like the recovery task simulator.
An Average visit takes about 2 hours but remember to leave time to visit the Crowns Cafe for something to eat and drink.

REME Museum Opening times:
Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 4.30 pm (last entry at 3.30 pm)
We will be open as normal on the 7th November. Our previous statement about being closed has been rescinded as the planned works to the mains electricity supply has been postponed.
The Museum will be closed from the 9th December 2018 until 2nd January 2019 for maintenance over Christmas. The archives will also be closed and unable to deal with enquiries during this time. The Crowns Cafe will open as usual until the 21st December when it will shut for Christmas. The Museum, Cafe and it’s archives will open as normal from 2nd January 2019.

We are located beside MoD Lyneham’s main entrance off of the A3102, the Calne to Swindon Road. If you are travelling from the M4 use Junction 16, head towards Royal Wootton Bassett then follow MoD Lyneham or the older RAF Lyneham signs towards the main entrance to MoD Lyneham.
Our car park can be accessed off the entrance road to MoD Lyneham prior to the security barrier. There is no need to bring ID to visit the Museum, Crowns Cafe or Shop.
Arriving by public transport:
The nearest train stations is Chippenham (10 miles away) or Swindon (12 miles away). There is a bus service to and from these stations and taxis available at the station. There are regular trains to and from London, Bristol, the West Country and South Wales from both stations.
The bus route is the 55 bus and takes approximately 40 minutes to and from Chippenham and Swindon stations. The Bus runs every 20 minutes during the Museum opening hours. The bus stop, MoD Lyneham Main Gate, is located across the road from the Museum and MoD Lyneham Main Gate. It is less than 350 meters from the bus stop to the Museum’s entrance.
The REME Museum is fully accessible with 4 disabled parking bays, 2 accessible toilets and step free access throughout. We have a wheelchair available for visitors to use.
