Easter Egg Hunt

Sun 30 Mar – Mon 21 Apr: running during museum hours

Spot all the eggs hidden by the Easter Bunny! Prize for the winner! Plus a small prize for all entries. Suitable for children of all ages.

 

Kit Bag Workshop

Tue 15 Apr: 11 am, 12 Noon & 2 pm

Explore the old and new uniform REME soldiers have used over the years. This workshop will be run three times throughout the day and advance booking is available. Suitable for children aged 3-8.

 

Flight Workshop

Wed 16 Apr: 11 am, 12 noon & 2 pm

Planes, helicopters and parachutes are all a part of this Flight Workshop. This workshop will be run three times throughout the day and advance booking is available. Suitable for children aged 7-12.

 

‘Build It!’ & Hunt Challenge

Mon 26 - Fri 30 May: running during museum hours

Complete this massive museum wide hunt to find our missing object. Plus the ever popular junk modelling “Build It!” will be running. Suitable for children of all ages.

 

Mini Assault Course

Wed 28 May, 11 am - 3.30 pm

Survive Sir’s Mini Assault Course and water jump!  A change of clothes might be needed.

 

Wednesday 11th June 2014, 6.30pm

The Blue Cross and Animals of the First World War, Tracy Genever

A talk about the work of the Blue Cross animal charity and how it helped thousands of wounded animals working with the military in France during the First World War. Fantastic photography and touching stories really bring to life this aspect of the war.

Tracy Genever is the Education Development Manager for the Blue Cross

Summer Gnome Hunt

Mon 21 Jul – Sun 7 Sep, running during museum hours

Hunt for hidden REME Gnomes in the museum. Then enter the free prize draw to win the contents of the “wheel barrow”! Suitable for children of all ages.

 

Wednesday 23rd July 2014, 6.30pm

'Making War Horse the Movie', Andy Robertshaw

 Andrew Robertshaw was a military consultant for the feature film ‘War Horse’ directed by Steven Spielberg. He will discuss his involvement with this renowned film, from the screen play to the last day of filming.

 

Andy Robertshaw is the Curator/Manager of The Royal Logistic Corps Museum at Deepcut in Surrey.

'From Cavalry Chargers to Beasts of Burden': Horses and War in History, Dr Karen Jones

This talk will explore the myth and reality surrounding horses in war by taking a look at their changing use in the British army from the Crimean War until the last cavalry charge of the First World War on November 11, 1918.

Dr Karen Jones is a Senior Lecturer in American & Environmental History at the University of Kent

Mini Shelters Workshop

Thu 21 Aug: 11 am, 12 Noon & 2 pm

Can you build a shelter out of junk in only 15 minutes? This workshop will be run three times throughout the day and advance booking is available. Suitable for children aged 7-12.

Blitz Day

Sun 5 Oct: 11 am - 3 pm

Join the “On Parade 1940’s” re-enactment group and go back in time and capture the spirit of the Blitz at the REME Museum. Entry to the Blitz Day is included in the museum admission price. Suitable for the whole family.

 

Half Term Activities

Wed 29 – Fri 31 Oct, 11 am - 3.30 pm

There will be activities throughout the museum. Plus our Mini Assault Course will be open, run by real REME Soldiers! A change of clothes might be needed. Suitable for children aged 5-12.

 

Christmas Coin Hunt

Sun 30 Nov – Fri 19 Dec, running during museum hours

Hunt for the Christmas coins and tinsel hidden in the museum, a small prize for all entries and a big prize for the lucky winner! Suitable for children of all ages.

  

  • Family events are suitable for children aged 5 to 12 years old unless otherwise stated.
  • All children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All events are free to Museum Gold Card holders and family on presentation of a valid card.
