Art Workshops & Mini Assault Course

Artist lead workshops, which include making your own model trucks, will be running throughout the day. Plus our ever popular Survive Sir’s Mini Assault Course will be running, a change of clothes might be needed! Art workshops have been sponsored by The Army Ogilby Trust.
The Horse Drawn War: First World War Commemoration Day Monday 4th August, 11 am - 3 pm
A special event day to commemorate the start of the First World War that acknowledges the role Arborfield had in supplying horses for the front line. Run in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition The Horse Drawn War.
Kit Bag Workshop – NEW for 2014 Wednesday 6th & Tuesday 19th August, 11 am, 12 Noon & 2 pm
Explore the old and new uniform REME soldiers have used over the years. Children will have a chance to dress up in the uniform. This workshop will be run three times throughout the day and advance booking is available. Suitable for children aged 3-8.
'From Cavalry Chargers to Beasts of Burden': Horses and War in History, Dr Karen Jones
Wednesday 13th August 2014, 6.30pm
This talk will explore the myth and reality surrounding horses in war by taking a look at their changing use in the British army from the Crimean War until the last cavalry charge of the First World War on November 11, 1918.
Dr Karen Jones is a Senior Lecturer in American & Environmental History at the University of Kent
Places are limited and booking and advanced payment is essential

Mini Shelters Workshop Thursday 21st August, 11am, 12 pm & 2 pm
Can you build a shelter from scrap in only 15 minutes? Don’t wear your best outfit because you may get a bit wet! The workshop will be run at three times throughout the day and booking is available but not required.

Artist lead workshops, a chance to explore some museum objects through art. These workshops will be running throughout the day. These workshops have been sponsored by The Army Ogilby Trust.
Tuesday 29th August, 11am, 12 pm & 2 pm
Taking place under a real army helicopter, this workshop will look at how planes and rockets fly. Museum staff will demonstrate the power of rockets and the children can make their own planes to fire from catapults! This workshop will be run three times throughout the day and advance booking is available. Suitable for children aged 7-12.
Sun 5 Oct: 11 am - 3 pm
Join the “On Parade 1940’s” re-enactment group and go back in time and capture the spirit of the Blitz at the REME Museum. Entry to the Blitz Day is included in the museum admission price. Suitable for the whole family.
Half Term Activities Wed 29 – Fri 31 Oct, 11 am - 3.30 pm
There will be activities throughout the museum. Plus our Mini Assault Course will be open, run by real REME Soldiers! A change of clothes might be needed. Suitable for children aged 5-12.
Christmas Coin Hunt
Sun 30 Nov – Fri 19 Dec, running during museum hours
Hunt for the Christmas coins and tinsel hidden in the museum, a small prize for all entries and a big prize for the lucky winner! Suitable for children of all ages.
• Family events are suitable for children aged 5 to 12 years old unless otherwise stated.
• All children must be accompanied by an adult.
• All events are free to Museum Gold Card holders and family on presentation of a valid card.
