The award winning REME Museum is looking for a Museum Assistant to join our team. The focus will be assisting the Collections Team; conducting collection audits, assisting with conservation activities and the acquisition of new objects. The role also involves coordinating and scheduling the Museum’s social media activity. There will also be the opportunity to assist with Museum events. This post would be suitable for someone interested in a career within Museums, working with collections, and who has a genuine interest in social media.

Key responsibilities

  • To assist the Collections team with audits, acquisitions, conservation activities, and maintain the exhibition galleries
  • To conduct visitors surveys as and when directed to provide evidence and feedback for Museum planning and policies
  • To coordinate and schedule the Museum’s social media activities with input assistance provided by other Museum team members
  • Coordinating and submitting the Museum’s stationery demand
  • Any other task as directed appropriate to the role including assisting with Museum events and providing occasional assistance to the Front of House team
  • Some weekend and evenings hours working required (to be agreed with Line Manager with time off in lieu provided)

Desirable knowledge and skills

  • Evidence of an appropriate qualification or experience working with collections in the heritage or museums sectors
  • Awareness of Spectrum standards and collections management systems (Modes desirable but not essential as training will be provided)
  • Ability to work alone or in a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail, logical way of working and good analytical ability
  • Computer literacy
  • Must be flexible and reliable

Terms and conditions

  • Hours – 37.5 hours per week
  • Salary - £20,445
  • Holiday – 25 days plus Bank holidays
  • Pension – NEST (Government approved scheme) wef 1 April 2014
