Virtual doors open, real doors closed for now As of Thursday 31 December, Wiltshire has moved to Tier 3. The tier change means that the REME Museum will not reopen in January as planned but will remain closed for the foreseeable future. We appreciate that this is tough news but the wellbeing of visitors and staff is our first priority. We hope to be able to safely welcome you back soon. If you made a booking for January via Eventbrite you will have been contacted by our team regarding a refund. If we can help with any other matters please please Contact us. We have tried to anticipate a few of your questions below. How long is the Museum closed for? The Museum will reopen when government advice suggests it is safe to do so. Information about reopening will be communicated through our website and social media. Are Museum events and activities cancelled? All Museum events are cancelled until further notice. All booked group visits, room bookings, school trips etc. are also cancelled. If you have made a deposit but have not been contacted please Contact us. What about the shop and Crown’s Café? The Museum’s Gift Shop and the REME Shop are closed until further notice. The REME Shop is still operating a mail order service via their website but please be aware that deliveries may take longer than usual. Crown’s Café is now also closed to the public until further notice. Please check Crown’s Café’s Facebook page for up to date details. Will my research visit still go ahead? No, all pre-booked research visits are cancelled until further notice. Staff will contact you directly to explore other options to facilitate your enquiry. Will the Museum still receive research enquiries? Yes, research enquiries can still be submitted using instructions on our Research page. Our Archives team are able to remotely access our catalogue and some digitised material, but our response will be limited if access to any original archival material is required. What about school trips? We cannot offer visits for schools or groups to the Museum at this time. However, we are offering exciting digital workshops and outreach sessions. Visit our Learning page to find out more. Can I still donate items to the Museum? We are unable to take custody of new items until further notice. You should not post items to the Museum without prior contact with our team as the front desk is not staffed to receive parcels. Is the collection safe? The Museum’s collections are checked regularly by staff to make sure they are safe and secure. The Museum building is monitored by private and MOD security. I visited the Museum recently, have there been any confirmed cases among staff or visitors? To date there have been no confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 among Museum staff. We are unaware of any visitors showing symptoms since their visit. What are staff up to? We are working on projects that can be completed from home; things like research for future exhibitions, data cleaning and preparing a new website.
