Family Fun

The REME Museum has activities to keep the whole family entertained from home or during a visit! With trails, worksheets and workshops there's lots to do and explore.

The Museum has signed the Kids in Museums Manifesto, which means we are committed to providing a safe, welcoming experience with children and young people in mind.

Trails

For our young visitors we offer seasonal trails full of objects to spot and questions to answer during their Museum visit. These trails are designed to get children engaged with the Museum displays and with REME history. You can pick up a trail map at our front desk or download our current Hide and Seek and i-Spy Trail (PDF, 0.8 MB) by clicking the link.

Four pictures of a bearded gnome in a blue hat and green jacket. From left to right, the first is the gnome sat amongst grass and leaves. The second is the gnome on a car bonnet in the foreground with a plane on a runway in the backgroud. The third is the gnome in snow. The fourth is the gnome facing away from the camera and towards an old-fashioned painting of women.

Our trails often feature our hand painted REME gnomes. One of our gnomes, @camo_gnome, travels the world in his free time. Make sure to follow his Instagram!

Quizzes

Looking to test your REME wisdom? Download our REME Knowledge Quiz (PDF, 1.3 MB) by clicking the link. All the answers can by found while exploring the Museum so why not print out before your visit? Copies can also be collected from our front desk.

Playpark

Our purpose-built playpark opened in 2021, which means your visit just got a whole lot more fun. We've got plenty of REME-themed equipment for your young ones to enjoy. The playpark can be accessed from 10.00am - 16.00pm, Tuesday to Sunday, (dependent on museum opening hours) from the outdoor café area or round the side of the museum building from the car park.

A colourful wooden park structure with a slide and bridge on some grass. Trees and more park structures in the background.

From helicopter slides to climbing frames, there's something for everyone in our brand new playpark.

Two pictures of people on a bridge in a park. From left to right, the first is a family of four in the background and another family of five in the foregorund. The second picture is the two families together on the bridge.

We were very excited to open the playpark with help from the REME family.

Holiday activities

During half terms and holidays we regularly host family workshops in our dedicated education space. These are free to attend but places require booking. Check our Events page for upcoming holiday activities.

When it's sunny you can tackle our outdoor assault course. See our Events page for dates.

Please be aware that the assault course is not part of our playpark and requires supervision, so is only accessible during specific event days. We ask that you do not use the equipment on regular admission days.

Event days

Keep an eye out for upcoming family friendly event days at the Museum. We host an annual programme of special events from our Christmas Fair to our summer World War Two Day that provide fun for all ages. Visit our Events page for upcoming event days.

Two people in Second World War medical uniforms stand either side of a display. The display shows clothing and equipment from the Red Cross in World War Two. A military truck is behind.

There was lots to see and do at our 2019 World War Two Day.

Online Learning

Our online learning resources and YouTube Channel feature lots of exciting activities you can do from home. Accept the #REMEMuseumChallenge and get stuck into STEM, art and history projects from home.

In this video our Education Officer explains how to make a balloon-powered vehicle at home! Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for much more.
