Secondary Schools

We offer an exciting range of STEM-based workshops for school groups, home schoolers and youth groups of a secondary school age (11 – 16). These workshops are tailored for Key Stages 3 – 4 and can be adapted for additional needs, different group sizes and alternative curriculums.

If you are looking for workshops for Key Stages 1 – 2, please take a look at our Primary Schools page.

You may wish to take a look at our Online Learning Resources, which could be useful as pre-visit preparation, activities for after your workshop to help with continued learning, or even as a standalone exercise!

If you are planning an informal visit for school-age children you may be interested in our Family Fun resource page.

The STEM Experience

Our Secondary School workshops are based around STEM subjects and can be tailored to each school, group or session. Whether your class is focussed on science, mathematics, engineering or technology, we can accommodate you. The following workshops can be booked separately or in combination to create your own session based on your group's needs:

LEGO® Engineering

Challenge your class to design, build and test motorised LEGO® vehicles with our technical, high-quality LEGO® engineering kits.  Extend their learning with specialist hydraulic and solar power add-ons to power their creations.

Get to grips with STEM skills, using our LEGO® construction equipment.

'Rocket Powered'

REME's talented engineers helped to develop the rocket powered Bloodhound LSR, which set new land speed records. Using specialist kit, provided by the Bloodhound team, your students will explore the forces at work in high-speed propulsion. It is rocket science!

'Crack the Code'

Wire together a simple Morse code machine then code up a message and transmit it to your teammates. This session is a fun way to explore simple circuits and understand why Morse code is still used in the British Army.

Behind the Scenes

Enjoy an exclusive visit on the base at MOD Lyneham, led by the Corps Engagement Team. Visits are subject to the REME Corps operational requirements and photo ID is required for all adults accompanying children onto the site.

Children stood with their backs to the viewer, looking at an Army soldier in uniform, who is in front of a large tank inside a hangar.

Come face-to-face with the latest Army equipment and witness trainee recruits learning how to fix it!
