Support Us Volunteer Volunteer The REME Museum is supported by a team of hard-working and enthusiastic volunteers who work across a number of areas of our operation. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and supportive place to volunteer, and we value the contribution our volunteers make. Volunteering is a good way to meet new people, gain new skills and support the Museum. To register your interest in any of our roles, or to have a preliminary chat to gain more information, please contact [email protected] or telephone us on 01249 894869. If you're interested in volunteering with us but don't see something suited to you below, please still get in touch as we may be able to accommodate you in another role. Keep checking back too, as these opportunities change regularly. Volunteer Roles We currently have the following volunteer roles open at the Museum: Visitor Survey Volunteer We are looking for reliable people who are friendly, outgoing and enjoy talking to new people! You will be someone who is happy to approach visitors, to talk about their experiences and encourage them to participate in our visitor surveys. You will be based primarily in the Museum’s Remembrance Gallery, where you will: Talk to the public about their visits Encourage and aid the completion of visitor surveys either on a tablet or their own device Answer any questions visitors may have For more information, please see the Visitor Survey Volunteer Role Description (docx, 1MB). Gardener We are looking for someone to help with our gardening projects at the Museum. These are primarily our World War Two 'Dig for Victory' garden and wildlife garden as part of the Greening the Museum project, as well as the Museum’s window boxes. For more information on how to get involved, please see the Gardener Role Description (pdf, 0.4MB). REME Ready! As a REME Ready! volunteer you will enhance visits to the Museum through the stories and memories of veterans and currently serving personnel. You will be keen to share your service with the public, and help people understand REME’s special purpose, skills and esprit de corps. For more information on becoming a REME Ready! volunteer, please see the REME Ready! Role Description (pdf, 0.5MB). Tour Guides The REME Museum frequently receives requests for guided tours around our wonderful displays. Staff members are normally able to provide these, but there are occasions when this proves difficult and so we are looking for friendly individuals who enjoy talking with members of the public to lead these groups. This is a great way for you to support the Museum and make sure those on the tour really enjoy their visit. Interested? For more information, please see the Tour Guide Role Description (pdf, 0.4MB). Education Assistant The REME Museum has an excellent reputation for providing stimulating and popular workshops, based on the STEM curriculum, for learners of all ages and abilities. A day when a school visits the Museum is invariably a very busy one, and we are looking for a volunteer who can come in and provide an extra pair of hands to assist Andrew, the Museum’s Education Officer. This will be a very busy, varied and unpredictable role, and will be suited to someone who is able to turn their hand to virtually anything and also think on their feet. For more information, please see the Education Assistant Role Description (pdf, 0.4MB). Practical Considerations Please contact us to discuss any access requirements you may have. We are able to provide travel expenses covering 30p per mile, or your public transport ticket, up to a maximum value of £25 per journey. All volunteers are entitled to receive 10% discount in the REME Shop and Crown's Cafe. REME Museum T-shirts/polo shirts will be provided to all volunteers working in public-facing roles.
