The REME Museum is located in the village of Lyneham, Chippenham, Wiltshire. We are not too far from the centre of Swindon or Chippenham.

The Museum lies just outside the perimeter of MOD Lyneham, the home of REME Regimental Headquarters and the Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering. There is no need to bring ID to visit the Museum or Crown’s Café.

By car

If using a SatNav system, you may find it helpful to use the postcode SN15 4PZ rather than our postal postcode (SN15 4XX).

We are located beside MOD Lyneham’s main entrance off of the A3102, the Calne-to-Swindon Road. If you are travelling by car from the M4 use Junction 16, head towards Royal Wootton Bassett then follow MOD Lyneham or the older RAF Lyneham signs towards the main entrance to MOD Lyneham. The Museum can be accessed by turning off the A3102 at the main gate to MOD Lyneham with which we share an entrance route.

The Museum boasts a large, free, on-site car park with a number of dedicated disabled spaces.

If you are visiting from the direction of Chippenham and Bristol, please note that the B4069 at the Lyneham Banks is closed following the road subsiding. More information on this closure can be found on the Wiltshire Council website. Please plan your journey ahead to avoid disappointing diversions and choose an alternative route of travel. We recommend planning your journey via Calne to avoid these closures.

Please follow the instructions above for directions by car, ensuring you make note of any roads unsuitable for coaches to pass through.

If you are visiting with a large group, please ensure you have booked with us in advance to ensure ample space and to take advantage of special offers and discounts. Contact us directly to make a group booking.
