The REME Museum is very excited to announce the launch of a new collaborative exhibition. We have worked with six other museums through the support of Museums in Wiltshire to produce 'Stories from the Stores'.

The online exhibition is hosted on the Museums in Wiltshire website and features objects from all participating museums, from Victorian knickers to a bust of Stalin’s granddaughter.

Our focus for the exhibition was to highlight hidden stories behind objects on display and in our stores. Our contributions include The Queen Mother’s Land Rover and the scale model of a Volkswagen Beetle presented to Major Ivan Hirst REME. Also included is an Army issue kit bag, the story of which continues well beyond its service use.

The work was made possible by a grant from Arts Council England (ACE), as part of a project called ‘Data to Discovery’, with thanks to funding from The National Lottery. This was a test project, exploring how to create collaborative exhibitions between museums who are seemingly connected only by regional location. During the process, it became clear that connections between our objects could be found in the most unlikely of places. Developing ways to demonstrate these relationships through the exhibition has been a huge accomplishment and paves the way for future collaborations.
