REME Museum is honoured to be hosting the Remember Together poppy mosaic.

To mark Remembrance Day 2020, local BBC radio stations came together to create a giant poppy mosaic. The artwork is made up of hundreds of photos taken by people across the country to mark the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. Photos pay tribute to friends, relatives and local military heroes and were taken by individuals, families, schools and organisations.

The photographic mosaic will go on display in our memorial garden, here at the REME Museum in Lyneham, Wiltshire.

In a year where parades and remembrance events were different due to coronavirus restrictions, the Remember Together mosaic ensures those who have served our country are not forgotten. It will be a lasting tribute to Remembrance and a poignant demonstration of how we came together to remember in 2020.

The piece will also be exhibited in Coventry as part of an exhibition in the build up to its year as UK City of Culture 2021 and 80 years to the month since more than 500 German bombers destroyed much of the city in the overnight air raid.

Chris Burns, Head of BBC Local Radio, said:

'We all know someone who serves or has served in the military. Sometimes it’s hard to find the words to thank them for the years or even decades they spent in uniform. This is our chance to thank them. We hope this poppy, made up of a thousand thank you notes, will be a fitting tribute to the British heroes who died in battle, and those who continue to serve.'

'The REME Museum is delighted and proud to be asked to display the BBC Local Radio Poppy. The poppy is a symbol of Remembrance and as such is a powerful reminder of those people in the military who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.'
